In his 3rd year living and teaching in South Korea, Sanford Jones is currently middle school and high school band director at Korea International School. Mr. Jones taught bands in New Hampshire (USA), Israel, Qatar and Düsseldorf, Germany before moving to South Korea. Sanford is an accomplished tuba player, having performed on award-winning albums: The Wind Music of Charles Bestor (CRC2216), Jeff Holmes UMass Studio Orchestra, and the Tony and Emmy award-winning Blast! The Musical (B8452D). Mr. Jones was a cast member, tuba soloist and associate conductor of Blast! The Musical. Sanford's background and interests include performance with and instruction of top level drum and bugle corps. Most recently Mr. Jones was a brass staff member and consultant for Jubal (Dordrecht, NL), Starriders (Bad Munder am Deister, DE) and The Academy (Tempe, AZ, USA). He performed in Star of Indiana's Brass Theater (predecessor to Blast), was drum major for the Spartans (Nashua, NH, USA) and played contrabass bugle for the Kingsmen (Fitchburg, MA, USA). Mr. Jones has also been a member of several concert groups in both and conductor and/or tuba player capacity, most recently the Düsseldorf Community Band (Founder and Director), Der Rheinische Bläserphilharmonie (Tubist) and the Doha (Qatar) Community Band (Director).
Sanford Jones is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts @ Amherst and The Al and Gladys Wright American Band College of Sam Houston State University. Mr. Jones studied conducting with Anthony Maeillo, Robert Ponto, Paula Crider, Malcolm W. Rowell and George N. Parks. Mr. Jones served the 2021-22 KIMEA year as Band Division Chair and currently serves as the KIMEA President-Elect for 2022-23.
