Welcome to the Jazz Division Page. The Jazz Division is home to the new annual National Honor Jazz Festival. Furthermore, it is the aim of the jazz division to promulgate and encourage the expansion of jazz offerings in international schools throughout Korea. Jazz music is the music of democracy and inclusion - everyone has a voice that has an important function that must be heard in concert with the voices of others but no one voice is any more important than any other voice. Through jazz music we hope to instill the values of self-expression, creativity, and teamwork.
Jack Brown is in his eighth year directing middle and high school choirs at Korea International School, Pangyo campus. He teaches five curricular choirs there, but he also teaches an after-school high school a cappella vocal jazz group. Before moving to Korea, he taught 24 years in the US, much of that in Meridian, Idaho, where he directed a vocal jazz choir and was a regular on the western and southern US singer/songwriter/guitarist scene. Jack has sung both solo and group vocal jazz, and has played jazz guitar, in many different situations and combinations throughout his teaching and personal performing career.
