In October 2010, a group of music educators from international schools around Korea recognized the need to create an organization that would create musical opportunities for their students. These founding members met at Asia Pacific International School to collaborate and plan for the future. It was from this founding meeting that the Korea International Music Educators Association was born.

After more than a year of planning, the first National Conference took place at Korea International School in 2011, soon followed by the first Large Group Festival at Seoul International School. The first National Honor Festival, bringing together the talented international music students from Korea, took place in the spring of 2012 at Seoul Foreign School. An official KIMEA Constitution, By-Laws and Board of Directors were adopted and voted in at a meeting at Yongsan International School of Seoul in May of 2012.

The Korea International Music Educators Association is an organization dedicated to the advancement of music education in Korea. Our membership includes elementary and general music teachers as well as choir, band and orchestra directors all serving in international schools in Korea. We hope to bring together as many music teachers as possible to share, encourage and advance music teaching in Korea.
